Throughout the pandemic and the ongoing structural changes in the retail sector, out of town has remained most resilient. As a result, service levels were maintained and budgets have been largely unchanged. As with all sectors, the inflationary pressures are beginning to mount. However, as earlier years budgets were largely maintained (following reductions in other sectors), the ‘bounceback’ is not as great. That said, as we enter 2022 service charges are increasing at an average of between 3% and 4% and rising. With potential for this sector to drive brick and mortar retail growth, we could begin to see rates continuing to increase as service levels are enhanced and expanded in these out of town locations, making ongoing management and control key.
