During the early part of 2021 shopping centre service charge budgets were reducing.  Moving into 2022, that is changing with rates now increasing by an average of 5% annually.  The rate of growth being slightly higher in prime schemes compared to secondary schemes, where Landlords continue to defer major works as they face challenges of their own due to vacancy rates and other concessions offered to remaining tenants.  There is inflationary pressure across virtually all service sectors.  In turbulent times with such upward pressure on costs, the need for ongoing management and control of service charges comes into sharper focus.
