Taking centre stage in this Employee Spotlight is Adrian Mullan, one of our first recruits back in 2011. With his passion and personality, as well as his vision for the company, our systems, and our operations, he’s a leading figure at Assure. Over to you, Adrian.
Position at Assure: Director
Can you share more about your background and how it led you to Assure?
My background was in information technology, and I worked for several companies providing solutions to financial institutions in the City. A midlife crisis struck me in the mid-2000s when I was tired of commuting to London every day! In order to become a commercial pilot, I gave up my job and started training. As I finished my training in 2007, crude oil prices reached an all-time high of over $140 per barrel! Many airlines around the world went bankrupt or laid off pilots, meaning that there was no work for newly qualified pilots. So, I worked for a flight training company based at Cranfield for 3 years until they ceased trading in 2011. I spotted an advert in a local paper for a “Service Charge Consultant” and decided to apply for the role, thankfully Lee invited me in for an interview and the rest is history.
What gets you most excited about coming to work?
Resolving complex or difficult cases and finding the best solution for our clients. Plus, the interaction I have with clients and colleagues across our teams.
And when you aren’t working, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I have a 19-month-old daughter at home who takes up a lot of my spare time! When I do have some, I enjoy long walks in the countryside.

Your top 3 favourite Podcasts/Books?
Since I stopped commuting to London, I haven’t read a book. During that time, I would read a book a week. As for podcasts, they aren’t something I listen to.
Tell us something about you that most people don’t know?
I can fly a plane and once held a commercial pilot’s license. I’ve also flown a helicopter a couple of times, although I haven’t successfully hovered one yet!
And one final question, list three items on your bucket list?
- Tour around the west coast of USA – my wife and I had planned to do this in 2020, but Covid got in the way, and now we have a little one!
- Bag all 282 Munros – I’ve climbed 3 so far, only 279 to go!
- Give blood 100 times – I’ve just donated for the 81st time. My blood type is O negative (or universal blood type), which can be given to anyone and is frequently used in emergencies.
