Meet Isabel Owen.  Isabel joined the team in 2015 and leads our retail & leisure division.  Passionate and tenacious, she plays a pivotal role in the growth of the business.  When she’s not pursuing cost saving opportunities for our clients, she can be found in rural Bedfordshire looking after her collection of furry and feathered friends.

Position at Assure:  Director 

Can you share more about your background and how it led you to Assure?

I originally qualified as a rural practice chartered surveyor (I can identify many breeds of cow) and swapped to commercial property management about 20 years ago.  I worked for a large firm of property consultants in the corporate property management team looking after Whitbread property, responsible for Premier Inn and Marriott hotels, and Charles Wells pubs for 13 years, before deciding I needed to do something different before I turned 40… Lee had recently set up Assure and I liked the idea of a new challenge!

 What gets you most excited about coming to work?

Knowing that we do a great job for our clients and being involved in the continued successful growth of the business.

And when you aren’t working, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I have horses, dogs, cats and chickens, sporty children and a house to renovate…. There is no such thing as spare time…

Stop talking, start doing…. I didn’t know it was a famous one, but Walt Disney apparently said ‘The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing’… my daughter hears it a lot, as well as ‘do as I say, not as I do’… common to many parents I’m sure….

Your top 3 favourite Podcasts/Books?

I have wide ranging tastes and usually have a couple of books on the go at any time. … historical fiction through to sports biographies, crime, chick-lit and Booker prize winners, but no specific favourites.  I haven’t really caught on to Podcasts yet, but I do like listening to Radio 4 and 4Extra for the comedy panel shows and occasionally catching the Archers!

Tell us something about you that most people don’t know?

I have a phobia of close up magic…

And one final question, list three items on your bucket list?

• Finish renovating the house

• Drive around Europe in a motorhome visiting lots of castles

• Learn to speak Italian
